The story of ‘Sweet Dreams, Shattered Screams’ is a very easy one to describe. It all started with the movie, ‘The Crow.’ When the movie first came out, I was a sophomore in high school, and my friends had gone to see the movie over the weekend. My former friend (who is a nut case) was obsessed with being the Crow. I helped her do the make up even. But I never really got caught up into the craze of the movie. I was oblivious to the lure of the movie.
When I first saw the movie, it was about two years ago. My best friend had bought the movie and asked if I would like to see it. Being game, I said “sure, why not?” When I sat there and watched the movie, I immediately fell in love with it. It didn’t become my most favorite movie, but it became one of the movies that I watched on a continuos basis.
It wasn’t until last year when I caught a hold of Mark Dacascos playing Eric Draven in a television version of the Crow that I got involved totally into the lure of the story, and the hold of the Crow. Watching Dacascos bring to life a character that Brandon gave up his life to be captured me instantly. Dacascos pulled of playing Eric Draven remarkably. In fact, at first, I almost thought that Dacascos was Brandon Lee, only slightly different.
The first time I watched ‘The Crow: Stairway to Heaven’ I thought to myself, ‘Gee, is this going to be as bad as the second movie turned out to be?’ I was genuinely shocked and pleased to see that it was better. When I first saw Dacascos, I as well as the friend I was watching the television episode with, both thought, “Brandon?” Of course we were wrong, but Mark was so close to Brandon it was eerie. Sometimes still we remark on how much like Brandon, Mark sounds. In the mannerism, in the attitude, in the way that Mark talks it all sometimes feels like Brandon playing the character still.
My poetry comes sporadically, just like inspiration does for anyone else. I get inspired by little things that stick out, and basically both Brandon and the character of Eric Draven, stuck into my mind. This page originally was going to be a page just dedicated to Brandon Lee, but I decided to do more than that, and this is what I am giving to you who love the Crow, and who love both Brandon and Mark.
Welcome to 'Sweet Dreams, Shattered Screams.’
